Meriwether Help - Keyword Search

Use the Keyword Search to search the libraries for titles that contain the words you type. The Keyword Search returns a set of titles that include the keywords you specify, sorted by title. To search by keyword, type keywords in the fields provided. You can choose a specific library type or library to search, then click Search to look for the items.

For more information about features of the Keyword Search page, read the descriptions provided below.

Navigation Bar

Use the navigation bar to move quickly between search options available in Meriwether. To search the libraries using another search type, click the search you want to use on the navigation bar. The current search type appears in reverse image on the navigation bar. To access your patron account click Patron Info. If this is the first time you have accessed the patron info, click Help and follow the guidelines. To go back to the first page you accessed click Start Over. Click the help button to access the current page's help screen.

Keyword Input Area

You can search for up to six keywords. Your search becomes more specific as you type additional keywords. Type only one keyword in each entry field.

You can perform a more sophisticated search using Meriwether's Boolean search features. Using the Boolean operators and, or, and not, you can use a Boolean search to create a search that finds items containing "this" or "that" term, "this" and "that" term, or "this" and "that" but not "those" terms. To submit a Boolean search, use the And/Or pull down to link the keywords in fields 1-3 with the keywords in field 4-6. You can also specify up to three exclusionary keywords using the But not: fields. Meriwether excludes any record that matches the search criteria specified in keyword fields 1-6 if the record contains an exclusionary keyword.

The Keyword Search is not case sensitive; it does not matter whether you type keywords in upper case or lower case. After you type keywords, click Search or press <Enter> to conduct the search. If you would like to clear your entries and start over, click Clear.

Include 'Websites' and/or 'eBooks'

Click 'Websites' to include any MARC record that was cataloged with an 856u tag. If you have purchased a database of cataloged websites, click 'Websites' to include that database in your search. Select 'eBooks' to include electronic books in your search.

Limit Search to Subjects

If you would like to limit your keyword search to keywords drawn exclusively from subject headings and subheadings (MARC tags 6XX), check the Search subjects only? box before you submit the search.

Choose Library Type/Library

With Meriwether, you can limit your search to libraries of a specific library type (high school, junior high, architecture, engineering, etc.). You can also limit your search to a specific library. By default, Meriwether will search every library in your organization for the term(s) you type. To search a specific library type or library, choose an option from the library type or library pull down lists at the bottom of the page. Note: If you are using a Javascript-enabled browser, Meriwether should select the appropriate radio button for you when you choose an option from a pull down list. If you are not using a Javascript-enabled browser, you must click the appropriate radio button before you submit the search.
